Dermatopathology Lab
The Dermatopathology Laboratory in the Department of
Dermatology, University of Connecticut is staffed by five
licensed dermatopathologists who process and interpret over
forty thousand cases per year. Difficult cases are reviewed
together by all members of the team before final transcription,
ultimately providing patients with an extremely high quality
service.
Special techniques are available through the UConn
Dermatopathology Laboratory which are not available at routine pathology laboratories. This includes immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence studies and receptor gene rearrangement
analysis. This allows for the accurate
identification of diagnostically challenging cases of melanoma
and lymphoma in addition to autoimmune blistering dermatoses and
other inflammatory diseases.
The Department of Dermatology strongly believes in the
importance of skilled dermatopathologists in the management of
patients with potentially deadly skin lesions. We welcome
referrals from the dermatology and primary care communities.
